iGaming Solutions Asia cover: Local payment methods in Bangladesh: what merchants should check before choosing a provider

A practical checklist for Bangladesh merchants evaluating local payment methods options.

Why local methods decide the outcome

In Bangladesh, the difference between a completed order and an abandoned one often comes down to whether the checkout offers the way your customers already pay. Card usage is not the default for many buyers; phone-based financial services are widely used. This page explains what our directory has verified about the local methods behind Bangladesh checkouts, and what you still need to confirm yourself.

What our directory has verified

Seven provider profiles carry a Bangladesh market coverage record, created from each provider's own website or a staff check with a date attached: SSLCOMMERZ (staff verification, 10 August 2026), and bKash, Nagad, Upay, ShurjoPay, aamarPay and PortWallet (all recorded from provider websites on 11 August 2026).

bKash, Nagad and Upay are widely known as phone-wallet brands, while SSLCOMMERZ, ShurjoPay, aamarPay and PortWallet present themselves as online payment services for merchants. That grouping is a reading aid drawn from how each provider describes itself. It is not a verified capability claim: our records do not assert that any single provider routes every method in the country.

Where a payment method is recorded for a provider, it is stored as a relationship row with a verification state, and you can see those rows on each profile. Where nothing is recorded, the profile says "Not publicly disclosed".

The method families to ask about

When you review a provider, ask which of these families it actually connects to, and on what terms:

- **Mobile financial services** - phone wallets used for person-to-person and merchant payments. - **Cards** - local and international debit or credit schemes, and whether the provider supports them for your category. - **Bank transfer or internet banking** - used by some buyers for larger amounts. - **Cash-out or agent-assisted flows** - relevant for customers who fund purchases without a card.

Ask each provider for the list in writing, and ask which of those are live today rather than planned.

What our records do not cover

For most of these providers, the directory does not yet hold verified data on pricing per method, settlement timing, payout currency, onboarding documents, accepted business categories, or regulatory status. Ask directly and keep the answers.

A short verification routine

1. **Open the profile and read the method rows.** Note the verification state and source date rather than assuming coverage. 2. **Ask for the live method list.** Methods that exist in documentation are not always enabled for new merchants. 3. **Ask about your category.** Eligibility is rarely published. 4. **Ask about failure paths.** What happens when a wallet session times out, and who issues the refund. 5. **Check the regulator's public site** at https://www.bb.org.bd for information on payment systems and mobile financial services, and form your own view on authorisation questions. 6. **Test before launch.** Use a test environment and run the full flow, including refunds. 7. **Keep records** of the date and source of every answer.

Compare methods across providers

The directory comparison tool lets you place two to four profiles side by side. It shows verified fields with source dates and marks what is missing, so you can see which provider still needs a conversation. If you hold an official source that adds or corrects a method record, submit it through the correction form on the provider profile and our team will check it against the source.

This page is general information for merchants and developers, not advice from a qualified professional on your situation.

Where to look next

Start with the Bangladesh country page in the directory, which lists the providers we have recorded for that market and links to each profile. From there, open the profiles of the two or three providers whose method rows match how your customers actually pay, and use the comparison tool to keep their replies side by side while you wait. If a provider's method list changes, the correction form on its profile is the quickest way to tell us, and we check the source before the record moves.
