KYC and AML in Bangladesh: what merchants should check before choosing a provider
iGaming Solutions Asia Editorial Team · October 25, 2026

A practical checklist for Bangladesh merchants evaluating kyc and aml options.
What this page covers
Know-your-customer (KYC) and anti-money-laundering (AML) checks are the part of onboarding where most merchants lose time. This page explains what those checks mean when you are choosing a payment provider in Bangladesh, what our directory has verified, and how to prepare so a review does not stall.
What our directory has verified
Seven provider profiles carry a Bangladesh market coverage record: SSLCOMMERZ (staff verification, 10 August 2026) and bKash, Nagad, Upay, ShurjoPay, aamarPay and PortWallet (all recorded from provider websites on 11 August 2026). A coverage record says our research team linked the provider to Bangladesh using an official source. It says nothing about a provider's compliance programme, the forms it uses, or whether it will accept your business. Where a provider's documentation is not in our records, the profile says "Not publicly disclosed".
The two directions of a KYC check
The first direction is the provider checking you. Expect requests for company registration details, a tax identification number, bank account information, ownership or director details, a written description of what you sell, and access to the website where you sell it. Some providers also ask how you handle refunds and cancellations, because those patterns show up in transaction monitoring.
The second direction is you checking your customers. For higher-value orders, prepaid instruments, or flows that cross a border, you may be asked to hold identity evidence yourself. Ask the provider what they expect you to keep, and for which transactions.
In both directions, the useful question is the same: who reviews the file, how long does it take, and what triggers a second review?
What our records do not cover
The directory does not hold verified data on any provider's document lists, review times, rejection reasons, screening tools, or transaction-monitoring rules. Those answers come from the provider, and they should come in writing so you can compare two or three of them fairly.
A preparation routine
1. **Keep one folder** with current registration, tax and bank documents, plus a short written description of what you sell and who buys it. 2. **Ask each provider for its document list** before you sign, and ask which documents are needed for your specific business type. 3. **Ask what happens to funds** while a review is open, and what causes a hold or a reserve. 4. **Ask how often records are refreshed** and what triggers a re-check, so you are not surprised months later. 5. **Check the regulator's public site** at https://www.bb.org.bd for published material on payment systems and mobile financial services, and form your own view on authorisation questions. 6. **Write down every answer** with its date and source. If a dispute arises later, the dated reply is the evidence. 7. **Get advice from a qualified professional** on your own obligations. This page is general information, not an opinion about your situation.
Where to look next
Open the Bangladesh country page in the directory to see the providers recorded for that market, then place two or three profiles in the comparison tool while you wait for replies. If a provider gives you an official document that answers one of the open questions, submit it through the correction form on the profile and our team will check it against the source before the record changes.
Why these questions matter in practice
A review that stalls is not only an inconvenience. Funds can sit unsettled while a file is open, a launch date can slip, and a repeated request for the same document usually means the first answer was unclear. Asking the four questions above at the start - the document list, the review time, the rules that cause a hold, and what triggers a refresh - turns an unpredictable wait into something you can plan around. It also gives you a fair basis for comparing one provider's written answer against another's, which is the only comparison that holds up later.
