Evaluating Game API Providers: What to Verify Before Integration

Content depth, licensing, latency, certification and commercial terms — the checks that matter when selecting a game aggregator or studio API.
Selecting a game content provider is a long-term commitment: integrations are costly to build and painful to unwind. The differences that matter are rarely visible in a sales deck.
Content and coverage
Start with the catalogue. How many titles are genuinely available to you in your licensed markets, as opposed to the provider's global total? Content availability is frequently restricted by jurisdiction and by studio-level agreements, so ask for a market-specific list rather than a headline number.
Aggregator or direct studio integration
An aggregator gives you many studios through one integration and one commercial relationship, at the cost of a margin layer and less direct control. Direct studio integrations reduce intermediaries but multiply engineering and contract overhead. Most operators end up with a mix; decide deliberately which titles justify a direct relationship.
Certification and jurisdiction
Games must be certified for the jurisdictions in which they are offered, and certification is title-specific. Ask which titles hold current certification for each of your markets and which testing laboratories issued it. Verify the answer with documentation rather than accepting a general statement of compliance.
Technical fundamentals
Latency, uptime history and failover behaviour determine player experience. Ask about hosting regions relative to your players, published availability commitments, how maintenance windows are communicated, and what happens to in-progress rounds during an outage. Request access to a staging environment and test round settlement, reconciliation and error handling yourself.
Reporting and reconciliation
You will need reliable transaction-level reporting for finance and regulatory purposes. Confirm the data available through the API, the retention period, and how discrepancies are resolved. Reconciliation gaps discovered after launch are extremely expensive to unpick.
Commercial terms
Revenue share, minimum guarantees, promotional tooling and free-round costs vary widely. Understand who bears the cost of jackpot contributions and bonus rounds, and how currency conversion is handled in reporting.
